Amit May Cohen
Amit May Cohen is a versatile multi-instrumentalist and vibrant composer for film and television, known for blending her deep roots in jazz, concert music, and contemporary composition into dynamic, emotionally resonant scores. Trained in both classical orchestration and improvisation, her work often highlights sharp comedic timing, unexpected textures, and bold harmonic choices. Whether scoring a sweeping orchestral adventure or crafting an intimate chamber cue, Amit brings a finely tuned sense of narrative, humor, and timing that elevates each project. Her music has been described as both playfully subversive and deeply human—moving seamlessly between lush, cinematic grandeur and minimalist, introspective soundscapes.
Amit’s diverse stylistic range is represented in her hybrid-orchestral comedy scores for the live-action Disney Channel films Zombies 2 and Zombies 3 (directed by Paul Hoen), as well as the quirky animated spin-off Zombies: The Re-Animated Series. Other notable projects include her guitar-centric score for the documentary 37 Words (directed by Nichole Newnham and Dawn Porter), her innovative minimalistic score for the Netflix documentary short The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone (directed by Maya Newell), and the indie farcical comedy feature The Country Club, starring actor John Higgins of Please Don’t Destroy.
She has worked as an additional composer and/or orchestrator on projects including Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw (2019), Valley Girl (2018), SWAT (2017-2020), The Sinner (2018-2020), Curious George: Cape Ahoy (2021), American Refugee (2021), and the Australian Academy Award-nominated documentary In My Blood It Runs (2019).
Originally from Israel, Amit’s debut EP Volatility (2022) showcases her exploration of unique sounds and textures, striking a balance between traditional and modern techniques. Many of her scores have incorporated experimental elements such as bicycle chains, mouth percussion, detuned guitars, and bird sounds. Amit has a degree from Berklee College of Music and graduated from the prestigious Sundance Music and Sound Design Lab in 2018 at Skywalker Ranch. She won 2nd Place in the MTNA National Composition Competition with her contemporary piece Black Dawn in 2016 and was awarded the ASCAP Emerging Film Composer Award in 2015.
